Pick up the Classified section in Dubai's leading newspaper, Gulf News, and you'll get an idea of what buying an used car is all about. From Alpha Romeos to Z4s, you'll find it all. This is Used Car Heaven!

It's also a great place to buy a new car. Prices are probably cheaper than where you're from, insurance is reasonable, driving taxes are negligible (you pay for registration, that's all), and the roads are ok.

You'll find every kind of car in the world here, and of course, you'll get all the fancy, racy ones. Plus, this is 4x4 mania country, so there are tons of options if driving an SUV is up your street.

Public transport in Dubai is pretty well managed, and the buses are comfortable and frequent. A cross-city monorail project is under way, owever, the current services are nowhere near what you would find in Singapore, London or Toronto. Or Bombay, for that matter. So, you're probably looking at buying your Dubai wheels asap.

Once you have a valid Driving License and a confrimed job (meaning, you are a Resident of Dubai), it's fairly easy to get financing for your car. Most local or multinational banks will be able to help you. Rates are pretty standard across the board, and financing is a breeze with some dealerships actually helping you out.

By the way, here's the official Dubai Police information on how to get your Dubai Driving License. Most licensed drivers from the UK, US, Canada, and Europe can get a Driving License instantly by showing their valid current license from their home countries.

This is the official Dubai Municipality site for the Used Car Complex (in Al Awir, about 15 minutes drive from downtown Dubai), and includes information on available cars, insurance, financing and registration. The complex is a massive set up with thousands of cars!
