The Dubai Government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have announced their School Inspection Reports for 2013. Although these are inspection reports, many parents consider them as School Ratings. Schools rated as “Outstanding” include Kings Dubai, Dubai College, DESS, Dubai Modern High School, GEMS Dubai Modern Academy, GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, GEMS Wellington International School, Jumeirah College, JESS, The Indian High School and Horizon School.
Some schools that would normally be on the “Outstanding” list, like the American School of Dubai (ASD), fall short on complying with the Ministry of Education’s regulations regarding Islamic Studies and Arabic teaching. ASD had this comment in their report: “ The school had taken no steps to ensure compliance with Ministry of Education regulations regarding the teaching of Islamic Education for Muslim students, as stated in the previous inspection; Although limited steps had been taken, the school remained non-compliant with Ministry of Education requirements regarding the time allocated to Arabic as a first language and Arabic as an additional language. “
An ASD parent commented “This probably leads to ASD’s consistent ranking as “Good” rather than “Outstanding”, even though the school had key strengths including “
Consistently outstanding attainment and progress in English at all levels;
The exemplary learning ethos of students across the school;
High quality teaching , learning and assessment in Kindergarten and elementary phases;
The outstanding arrangements for health, safety and support for all students;
Outstanding parental engagement opportunities. “
