Experiencing an American Curriculum at Collegiate American School

Students at Collegiate American School learn through a technology driven STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education which is based on inquiry, research and integrated experiences.

We follow the U.S. New York State Standards for all subjects, including the NY Common Core for Mathematics and English. These standards provide our students with a rigorous framework that prepares them for life after high school and their studies at university.  The NY State Standards in combination with our STEM laboratory provide students with the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills students need to be successful in an international setting.

Students are assessed using the Measure of Academic Progress Test (MAP) that provides teachers real-time data as to the individual progress each student makes in language, science, math and English.  Additionally, our students participate in the International Benchmark Assessments Tests (IBT) which allows us to compare our students subject knowledge against students throughout the world.

Early years programs are designed with standards from the U.S.  National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Students interact with materials and their environment in intentional play based ways. Young children are guided to acquire social and academic skills and concepts through stories, inquiry and manipulatives.

Grades 11 and 12 prepare the Collegiate American School student with the skills needed to successfully enter a university, a pre-professional program or the world of work. All graduates will earn a U.S. Diploma and some may also choose to participate in our International Baccalaureate Programme as we are an authorized IB World School.  In some cases, based on scheduling and availability, it may be possible to take one or two IB level courses as part of the US diploma.

Diploma Programme (DP) At CAS

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a course of study designed to meet the educational requirements of students aged between 16 and 18 years. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a well-rounded, rigorous course of study, devised to develop students with skills for the 21st Century, who are informed global citizens. It aims to help students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world.

The programme reflects the IB commitment to internationalism through second language learning and through some literature requirements in English. The programme includes learning outside the classroom through the extended essay and the community, and to independent learning through research.
