British Elementary through to Primary

Jebel Ali Primary School was founded in 1977 and is now one of the oldest schools in Dubai, if not the entire UAE. JAPS teaches the British Curriculum. The school has a wealth of experience and an enviable reputation for excellence.
It is incorporated by Decree of the Ruler of Dubai and is licensed by the Ministry of Education in accordance with the laws of the UAE. The school is also recognised by the United Kingdom Department of Education & Employment.
Jebel Ali Primary School has grown tremendously since its foundation in 1977. The school is a member of the British Schools of the Middle East and the UAE British Businessmens Group. Today we have over 645 pupils in 28 classes within two separate key stage sites. In spite of the large number of children we are able to maintain our “small school” feel as we encourage strong links with the parents and the wider community.

Location
Located in the Jebel Ali Village, near Ibn Batuta Mall, off Shk Zayed Road
Who runs the school?
The School’s affairs are overseen by the Board of Governors which meets at least twice a term. The Head Teacher is Mr Jonathan Price.
Is this a non-profit school?
Yes. The School has independent status and operates on a non-profit making basis.
What facilities does it offer?
The School expanded in September 1997 by splitting into two sites approximately one kilometre apart – a Key Stage One Department at the new Jebel Ali Al Muntazah Villas Complex, and a Key Stage Two Department at the original school site in Jebel Ali Village. Both Departments have access to swimming pools, climbing frames and grassed areas. The Key Stage Two site has a new pool and sports hall.
What is the school’s philosophy?
The school is devoted to the notion that every child is important. Indeed, an exceptionally wide range of opportunities allow every child to find those things that enable them to feel successful and to develop his or her talents. The approach to motivating and getting the best out of the children is based on the positive reinforcement of good work and good behaviour with a philosophy which centres on praise, encouragement, enthusiasm and fun.
By accepting the offer of a place at the School, parents agree to their child receiving an education firmly based around the National Curriculum for England and the associated assessment procedures. Certain modifications have to be made due to regulations here in the United Arab Emirates and the local environment influences some of our geographical, historical and environmental studies.
At the heart of every good school is a good staff, and this is where the secret of Jebel Ali’s success lies. We all enjoy being associated with an organisation which is successful and where hard work is appreciated and recognised. Jebel Ali Primary School provides all this and more.
Curriculum
Jebel Ali Primary School aims to provide a high quality British style primary education based upon the framework of the National Curriculum for England and adapted to meet the varied needs of our international school community, highlighting the richness and diversity of Emirati culture and history. The school seeks to educate the whole person, to foster respect, tolerance and understanding, and to develop the skills and aptitudes that will allow students to adapt and succeed in a world which is rapidly changing. The school offers a secure, family environment where children are challenged in order to gain the necessary skills in academic, social, sporting and aesthetic fields. We emphasise the development of the individual but also encourage students to see themselves as valued and productive members of our school and the community.
The curriculum is mainly delivered through a topic approach with discrete subject lessons where appropriate. We have specialist teachers for Islamic Education, Arabic, Music, P.E. and Learning Support.
Admissions
Admissions arrangements are in accordance with Ministry of Education regulations. Children are generally four years old prior to the start of school in the Reception Year. Older children are admitted up to the age of 11 years. Admission to the Reception class is in September only, except when a pupil is transferring from another school. All admissions are subject to a place being available and the School being able to cater for the child’s needs. Assessments are usually required prior to a place being offered. A child’s place at the School is at all times subject to the discretion of the Board of Governors. Any reports or samples of work from previous schools will be required at the time of applying. The fees are determined by the Board of Governors, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Education, and are liable to revision.
