British Elementary through to 6th Form
JESS Arabian Ranches Primary
JESS Arabian Ranches Primary School builds on 30 years of the JESS reputation as a provider of high quality primary education. JESS operates an ‘open door policy’ and welcomes parents’ involvement in their child’s schooling. The Arabian Ranches Primary School opened in September 2005 in one of Dubai’s new suburbs. It has 530 pupils on roll ranging from 3-11 years. The campus is made up of a range of teaching and subject blocks and, as such, takes on the feel of a village. The buildings are aesthetically pleasing in their design and take on a Spanish/Moorish style.
There is a strong emphasis on multi-sensory, cross-curricular learning throughout the school, with a clear focus on skills and attitudes in the development of life-long learning. Children entering JESS in Foundation One begin a 2-year programme following the Early Years Foundation Stage, a UK Early Years curriculum based on a practical, hands-on approach.
Children are guided through six areas of learning, namely:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication, language and literacy
Problem-solving, reasoning and numeracy
Knowledge and understanding of the world
On entry into Year One children commence Key Stage One of the UK National Curriculum. This is also a 2-year programme leading to Key Stage Two when the children are in Years 3-6.
The National Curriculum subjects are divided into core subjects: language, mathematics and science and foundation subjects: history, geography, art, design technology, music, physical education. In addition, JESS pupils learn Arabic from Year One and French from Year Five. ICT is an integral part of the curriculum on offer at JESS and is used across all subject areas. The Learning Support department within the school responds to the individual needs of particular children, offering support as well as extension for children who require extra input.
JESS Arabian Ranches Primary is located at the Arabian Ranches, just off Emirates Road.
Who runs the school?
The leadership and management of the school includes Director R D Stokoe, Headteacher Ann Jones, Deputy Headteachers, Year Group Leaders and Subject Leaders, however, all staff contribute to current initiatives.
Is this a non-profit school?
What facilities does the school offer?
Sports facilities include a nine lane shaded/temperature controlled swimming pool, plus a separate learners pool, four tennis/three netball courts, a large air conditioned sports hall and a sports field that takes two football pitches.
Located centrally within the campus is an Auditorium with attached outdoor amphitheatre and a dedicated music centre.
The self-contained Primary School has access to these facilities in addition to a dedicated PE studio and Music room within the Primary school itself. There is a centrally located library with an independent Primary section.
The Primary school is a 2 storey building, the ground floor housing Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, the upper floor Key Stage Two. Each year group has its own defined area comprising three classrooms and a shared central area. Within the Primary school there is also an ICT room, languages room, learning support room and a science/design technology room. Resources are, and will continue to be, excellent and the school is committed to a high level of ICT to support the curriculum with each class having an interactive whiteboard and laptops in each central area.
Surrounding the Primary school building are two dedicated play areas for Foundation pupils and for the Key Stage One pupils. Each play area provides a range of equipment and resources of the highest standard.
Children at JESS have the opportunity to take part in a range of extra-curricular activities. There are clubs for all kinds of sports, as well as numerous music and performing arts opportunities. Whilst many clubs take place at school some occur off site such as skiing, horse riding and rock climbing. Pupils develop new skills, gain self-confidence and enjoy many new experiences.
The aim of the Physical Education department at JESS- Arabian Ranches is to provide high quality physical education to enable students to maximize their performance across a wide range of physical activities and sports. All the staff were trained and have taught the UK for several years prior to working at JESS. The JESS Physical Education Department has set up relationships with Manchester United Soccer School, Dubai Sports Academy, Speedo and DUGYM, who use the school’s facilities, assist in the coaching of the children and bring sports stars from around the world to host extra training sessions and seminars.
What is the school’s philosophy?
At JESS children are supported in their development as active learners. They are involved in target setting and evaluation of their own success. Self and peer evaluation skills are developed systematically from an early age to enable children to develop critical thinking skills. Staff are trained in Brain Gym – a system whereby children are given regular breaks to engage in a series of exercises that encourage left and right sides of the brain to function at equally optimum levels.
As children all learn in different ways, teaching planned with learning styles is a key factor; visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners are all catered for within lessons, just as all levels are extended or supported as necessary through a thorough implementation of differentiation across all areas of the curriculum.
At Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) the academic year runs from September to June; however children can be admitted during the academic year if a place becomes available subject to KHDA guidelines.*
– Fluency in English
All children admitted into Jumeirah English Speaking School must be fluent in English and able to access all areas of the curriculum through the medium of English. For further details, read this document.
Admissions are also subject to criteria which will vary according to the child’s age group, as follows:
– Foundation, Primary and Secondary
Reports from previous schools / nurseries will be assessed by the academic teaching staff and if deemed necessary, may be followed by an assessment or interview.
The school operates tours of both JESS branches throughout the year. These tours are pre-arranged and give parents and children the opportunity to visit the school premises and see the children in their classroom environment whilst viewing the facilities available at each branch. The tours are conducted by a member of the Senior Management Team who will be able to answer any questions you may have.
If you are eligible to apply to JESS and would like to arrange a visit, please contact the receptionist at the relevant branch of JESS.
Can I apply?
