British Elementary through to Sixth Form / IB Diploma Program

Repton School in Dubai offers a British education in the context of an international boarding community in partnership with Repton in Derbyshire, England. With state-of-the-art modern facilities and amenities, Repton School is situated on a spacious campus of 1.3million sq ft, making it the largest school in the region.
Pupils aged between three and eighteen years benefit from an English independent school curriculum that incorporates elements of the English National Curriculum. Repton offers IGCSEs with a choice of 45 subjects; the largest offering in the region. The school was granted IB World status on 1st April 2009, only six months after the Senior School opened its doors. Of the 2,590 IB World Schools, across 134 countries, it is the only one of three schools to achieve this prestigious accolade in such a short span of time.
In the curriculum, following the introductory years, senior school pupils embark on two-year IGCSE courses. IGCSEs are excellent, internationally recognised middle-level qualifications, and they form the foundations needed for the next stage, namely Sixth Form study in Years 12 and 13.
In the Sixth Form, Repton students follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with six main subjects and a theory of knowledge course and a range of activities and community service projects.

Who runs the school?
The Repton Board of Governors aim to ensure the long term viability of Repton School. The Board sets policies but is not involved with the day –to- day activities of the school. The Board is responsible for approving the annual budget and is also responsible for hiring and evaluating the Headmaster.
The Board of Governors meets at a minimum of six times per year.
The Headmaster of the school is Jonathan Hughes D’Aeth, and the Head of the Senior School is Nicholas Clements.
What is the school’s philosophy?
Repton Dubai’s mission statement on its website says that its aim is to prepare all its pupils for adulthood through the pursuit of the highest standards in academic studies and all the other varied activities that comprise pupil life in a boarding environment. In achieving this mission, the realisation of every pupil’s academic potential is always central, while acknowledging that the building of responsibility, consideration for others and self-esteem, so vital in adulthood, comes equally from participation in sport, music, drama, art and other extra-curricular activities.
The Ten Values
Repton Dubai sets out to educate all students with a firm set of values, which it also seeks to uphold in all its many and varied activities. These values are:
To instil pupils with the determination and self-confidence to meet the challenges of an ever-changing technological world.
To develop a sense of dignity and respect for others.
To enable pupils to display real dexterity of thought and action when faced with changing circumstances.
To encourage the development of a sense of inquiry, independence of thought and a willingness to take risks in a rational fashion.
To demonstrate initiative when faced by the challenge of leadership and responsibility.
To promote internationalism by developing an understanding of the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations.
To instil in pupils a sense of pride and commitment to the values and achievements of the school, both during and after their time there.
To present opportunities for pupils to express their creativity, develop a joy of learning and gain self-confidence.
To involve pupils in the promotion of a caring and compassionate society, both within the school and in the outside world.
To promote these values and objectives through the educational and extra-curricular activities pursued by the school, and all its staff, pupils and parents.
What facilities does the school offer?
Two floodlit Tiger Turf pitches (which can be used for football, cricket and full contact rugby), two full sized basketball courts, airconditioned sports halls as well as indoor cricket nets, bowling machine and climbing wall, a track and field area, three floodlit tennis courts, dedicated weight training and cardio rooms, indoor heated 25 metre six lane competition swimming pools, two further covered multisports areas to be completed with markings for five-a-side football, basketball, netball, tennis and volleyball.
Repton also has a strong provision of extra curricular activities from Art and Astronomy clubs to Film Appreciation Society, Java Programming Club, Library Club, Rock Challenge, Shaolin Kung Fu and many more.
The Art Department offers painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography and history of art. Choir and an opportunity to learn instruments are also available.
Away from the school campus there is a plethora of opportunities to participate in trips for academic, cultural, sporting and leisure purposes. In the last year,
pupils have been to Nepal, Mauritius, India, Malaysia, China, Jordan, Poland, Austria, Italy, Uganda, France, UK, Germany, France, Czech Republic and Oman.
Repton has developed a structured Outdoor Education programme that provides pupils with the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to equip them for the tasks and responsibilities of adult life.
The Outdoor Education department provides a range of trips and
expeditions for each year group. Each pupil will experience annually some form of different outdoor adventurous trip/expedition during their time at Repton.
Admissions requirements
Boys and girls are admitted to Repton Dubai as day pupils from 3 years old up to the age of 18, and as boarders from the age of 11 (Year 7 in the Senior School). We offer a British independent school curriculum which while incorporating elements of the English National Curriculum, is academically demanding and designed to extend and challenge our pupils.
The school year runs from September to June but we are able to admit pupils through the year if places are available (subject to KHDA guidelines). Thus when places are offered during the year, we can only offer places that start within the dates listed below:
Moving within Dubai from a different curriculum: 1st September to 15th November
Moving within Dubai from an English curriculum: 1st September to 28th January
Moving from outside Dubai from a different curriculum: 1st September to 15th November
Moving from outside Dubai from an English curriculum or from a curriculum that has no equivalent curriculum school in Dubai: 1st September to 5th May
All parents of prospective pupils are advised to make initial contact with the Admissions Office. Mrs Julie Decraene-Dunn (julie.decraene@reptondubai.org) or Mrs Lamiaa Hamdy (lamiaa.hamdy@reptondubai.org) are able to meet prospective parents to assess their needs and to advise them on the admissions procedure at the school.
If you are interested in boarding, please contact Mrs Felicity Bosworth (felicity.bosworth@reptondubai.org)
All prospective parents need to complete a registration form, which constitutes the basis of your application to Repton Dubai. A member of our Admissions team is more than happy to explain the form and the other information required, in addition to providing a preliminary visit around the school. You can download the Registration Form and send or bring it to the Admissions Office.
Assessments for entrance
Repton is an academically selective school and all children who are considered for a place are assessed. The intention of the assessment process is to evaluate a child’s potential for future success.
The school looks for potential, not just specific to particular activities, but also in behaviour, attitude and character. The assessment process is carefully designed to be a fair measure of a child’s ability in a number of areas. All assessments are age appropriate.
Repton uses paper based tests and Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT) to assist in the selection process. All children applying for Y7 onwards take CATs which are computer based. All Junior School applicants are given age appropriate assessments based on work our current pupils undertake.
Further information on CATs can be downloaded here.
Assessments are carried out in school or arrangements can be made for children to sit the tests at their current school.
For Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2, assessments can only be conducted in school. If you are not able to bring your children to school at the time of application, the school may, in some instances, be able to make a conditional offer contingent on your child passing the assessment once they arrive in Dubai.
Assessments for the Junior School are held every Sunday at 9 am.
For Nursery and Reception please allow 1 hour. Tests for Y1 and 2 take 1 1½ hours in total. Years 3 and 4 take 2 – 2¼ hours. Years 5 and 6 take 2 – 2 ½ hours Assessments for the Senior School are held every Sunday at 9 am. Tests and interviews in the Senior School take around 3 hours.
For entry to the Sixth Form (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) applicants must achieve a minimum standard in their GCSEs, IGSEs or equivalent in order to take the Diploma. The requirements for Sixth Form are a minimum of six grade Bs at GCSE, IGCSE or equivalent. In some instances, applicants will also take Cognitive Ability Tests. All applicants will be interviewed and must demonstrate participation in wider school life.
All assessment results are final. We do not disclose actual results nor do we enter into correspondence about individual results. There is a non refundable assessment fee of AED 1000.
Waiting lists
Repton is a popular school and competition for places, particularly in the younger year groups, is particularly intense. As in some of the top UK universities and public schools, Repton operates an Applicants’ Pool. Once an application has been received, this is recorded in thesystem and the applicant’s name is added to the pool. Applicants are then invited for assessment. There are a range of factors taken into account when inviting an applicant for assessment but payment of the registration fee is crucial.
Where there are limited places for a year group, the Admissions Committee decides who will be invited for assessment. The Committee, which reports to the Board of Governors, comprises senior staff and is entirely divorced from the Admissions Department.
Priority for places does go to siblings of pupils already in school. The deadline for application for siblings is 1st November for entry in the following September. This deadline applies to all year groups throughout the school and is strictly adhered to.
All families who have applications in the Applicants’ Pool and who have not been successful in gaining a place for that year will be contacted at the end of the academic year to check if they would like their child’s application to remain in the Pool for the forth-coming year. If there is no response to this, the child’s name will be automatically removed.
Fees
Fees are payable in four instalments; an initial payment of AED10,000 followed by three termly instalments.
For New Parents: Initial payment of AED10, 000 must be made within seven days of receiving an offer of a place. Should there be a change in circumstances which necessitates a withdrawal, a full refund of this payment will be made up until 1st June. After this date, no refund of this payment will be made. However PDCs will be returned in accordance with the Withdrawal Policy. Failure to make initial payment at the time of acceptance of place will result in the offer of a place being withdrawn for the forthcoming academic year.
If an offer of place is made after 1st June, parents have a 15 day period from acceptance of place to recover this initial payment if there is a change in circumstances. After this period, no refund of this payment will be made. However PDCs will be returned in accordance with the Withdrawal Policy.
For Current Parents: Initial payment of AED10,000 is due at the time of re-registration. Should there be a change in circumstances which necessitates a withdrawal, a full refund of this payment will be made up until 1st June. After this date, no refund of this payment will be made. However PDCs will be returned in accordance with the Withdrawal Policy. Failure to make initial payment at the time of re-registration will result in the child’s place being withdrawn for the forthcoming academic year.
Remaining Payment
If payment is made by cheque, parents are requested to remit three cheques at the time of acceptance of place or re-registration. Payments are divided into three installments of 40%, 30% and 30%, less the initial payment of AED10,000.

In the case of new admissions, a rebate of 5% is applicable if the tuition fees are paid in full within one week of the date of the offer.

A non-refundable Assessment Fee of AED 1,000 is payable at the time of assessment.
A refundable deposit of AED 50,000 is payable on acceptance of a boarding place. This deposit is fully refundable once the pupil leaves, assuming that all outstanding balances have been cleared.

Transport
Transport for Repton School is operated by School Transport Services (STS) LLC. All transport services are handled directly by STS, who have an office on the second floor of the administration building at Repton. STS now handle all payments directly, as well as the issuing of receipts. All registration and payment of transport fees should be made directly with STS and all cheques should be made out to ’ School Transport Services LLC’ and not to Repton School. Cheques made payable to Repton School will not be accepted.
There will not be any increase or change in the transport charges for the coming academic year. For those pupils who have already registered and paid their transport fees directly to Repton for the academic year 2011-2012, these payment details have been passed to STS.
All STS buses comply with RTA requirements: the distinguishing yellow colour, speed control systems, stop arms, seatbelts and many other features. The buses deployed at Repton School Dubai have Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems that enables us to monitor the movement of the buses at all times.
All bus drivers will have a “School Bus Driver Permit” issued by the RTA, and each bus will also have a bus conductor who has undergone extensive training from STS and will ensure student comfort, safety and security.
All pupils must carry a bar coded identity card. Children will swipe their cards on entry to the bus thus providing accurate registers of who is on each bus.
